About the lake...
Located just 20 miles north of Charlotte, Lake Norman is North Carolina’s largest man-made lake. It was created between 1959 and 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam by Duke Energy. Capturing the beauty and grasping the size of the lake is best done by boat. Several marinas grace the shores of Lake Norman, providing boat launches, rentals, repairs, and gas stops to refuel. Be aware, there is no horsepower or speed limit on Lake Norman. Lake Norman is the place to enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities, including fishing. Anglers come to Lake Norman from around the world for their chance at a record-winning catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, striped bass, and yellow and white perch. Lake Norman is the site of several national fishing tournaments annually, a testament to the fishing opportunities available here. The fish bite all year round, if you are willing to brave the Southern winter chill or a mild spring day to drop your line, you might catch a LUNKER! Your prize catch awaits you in Lake Norman.
